Thanks for your answer Aaron and Matt.
Well, the code is a macro starting an Ansys batch job for solving a model. That was a little bit complex to be posted. But any command fails:
/sys,dir
In all our computers, except in the newest one, this command executes the Windows command dir, i.e., I get a list of files in the current working directory, printed out in the Ansys output window.
In the computer in question I get the error message "Command cmd.exe is either wrong or not found". Well, this is the translation of the message I get in German. I guess, it is the operating system issuing the message and not Ansys.
We've been using this since almost eight years, in many different computers, without a problem. I guess someone will say, we're using a very old Ansys version. Yes, but it's working, so far at least. I've checked the OS version in the newest computer and it is the same as in the rest of computers.

Hello,
When passing a string to the operating system, using command /sys, I get an error message saying that the command "cmd.exe" is wrong or not found.
We're using Ansys MAPDL v15 in a Windows 10 computer.
File cmd.exe is under folder C:\Windows\SysWOW64
The environment variables are OK: ANSYS_SYSDIR points to winx64 and ANSYS_SYSDIR32 to win32.
Any idea what could be wrong?
Thank you very much in advance.

It could possibly be IT permissions also. Perhaps IT does not allow calling the CMD command from another app. And if IT recently implemented that restriction, it would explain why it worked for a while, but now does not.

Thanks Matt. That's a good suggestion. Our IT colleagues are control freaks, except when it comes to Ansys; they don't want to have anything to do with it. We have to install Ansys by ourselves, without any help from them. And when there's a problem, they shrug it off. Our ASD will say, our Ansys version is no longer supported. Yesterday we asked them, but we have not as yet received a response.
OK, I'll check it out tomorrow; the problem is with the computer of a colleague of mine and he already knocked off work.

That reminds me of my previous employer, a large OEM, where the IT department didn't realize that they were overhead and their main function is to support the engineering group which actually produced something. They had their own priorities and sense of worth which often didn't align with the needs of their customers. Frankly, I think them not supporting ANSYS for you is unacceptable and I would raise that up the management chain as much as I could.

Thanks Joseph a lot for your e-mail. It's somehow consoling to know we're not the only peculiar company. It's just like you describe it. It seems we're here not to build ships but to obey the IT guys. I understand there are security and efficiency issues, but at the end of the day, it is us who have to look for workarounds to circumvent the IT problems.
Many years ago our ASD proposed to use a virtual machine. A very good idea, but no way, was the IT conclusion after presenting them this proposal. They never gave a reason why. And my boss was present. So the management knows. And so we came to the current license scheme, where we work with PrepPost licenses and just two batch solver licenses, so that when the user calls the command "solve" a macro is started, which in turn starts a solve process in the background. To that end I need the command /sys to work. For the user it is as though we had a full license. But in this new computer this is not working any longer.
