Hello all -

I have been using a SpaceMouse Classic Serial 3D mouse with ANSYS MAPDL and Workbench for many, many years. We recently updated from ANSYS 15.0 to 17.1, and I find that while the SpaceMouse works in MAPDL 17.1, it does not work in Workbench 17.1. Here's what I'm running:
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
3DxWare Version: 5.9.2 (this is the last release that officially supports my device)

Has anyone found success with the SpaceMouse Classic in Workbench 17.1? Or is it time to say goodbye to an old friend and upgrade to a current SpaceMouse?

Here is our 3DConnexion Devices Certification.

I would recommend using one of the supported devices and drivers. We fixed
a few defects with the modern devices which may degrade the legacy ones
(the view buttons, anyway). We removed this statement regarding legacy
drivers at 18.0.

"If problems are encountered, try loading different drivers for the
devices, either older drivers, or drivers from similar operating systems."

Jerry,
I had been able to use my Spaceball 5000 (although USB and not serial) until recently. It think I could have kept it going but frankly it got too much of a headache swapping out driver files (manually, IIRC). So I suspect that's the route for you.

It's a shame, as I often preferred it over the newer versions and it was a whopping $5 used.
