Does External Data use *MOPER,,,MAP or does it have its own distinct coding? I have some data that is suspect, and it produces similar results in both. Is that confirmation that the data is hosed, or am I using the same knife to skin the cat?
Richard,
I'm pretty sure the default option on external data uses the same underlying algorithm as *moper,,map if you are mapping using a point cloud, which you probably are if you can compare the two methods on the same dataset. I believe the default is the "triangulation option". In external data, I think you might be able to try Kriging or Distance Based Average. But, your mileage may vary. I've personally had the best luck with the default. The last time I used Kriging, it was prone to giving some spectacularly wild results. It may have improved since.
Data mapping is one of those things that on the surface looks like it should be straightforward, but the details are surprisingly subtle and difficult.
