License not being released

Hello all,

We have been running on a problem for some time and it has become very annoying as of late. Sometimes, when the solution process is stopped before finishing, ANSYS will not release the license. I can see from the ANSLIC_ADMIN utility that the license is still assigned to my user/pc, however when I try to run ANSYS on this condition it gives the following error:

ANSYS LICENSE MANAGER ERROR:
Capability ANSYS Mechanical APDL - HPC does not exist in the ANSYS licensing pool.
None of the products enabling this capability are available in the specified license path:
ANSYSLI_SERVERS: 2325@REDACTED
FLEXlm Servers: 1055@REDACTED

ANSYS license server is in a remote server. Previously the server was on my machine, so I was able to just stop and restart the license server and all would come back to work (not the best solution, but it worked). Now, for security reasons, I don't have access to said server and can't restart the license server, and need to wait for the license to time out. That is something between 10 to 20min. Also, we have 2 licenses but ANSYS refuses to use the additional license. This is what is shown in ANSLIC_ADMIN log, when retrieving license information:

It seems to be a problem in your network, some kind of lag.
I suggest your IT investigate this, during a typical using day.
They have more advanced tools similar to "PING IP" for doing it.

It seems to be a problem in your network, some kind of lag. I suggest your IT investigate this, during a typical using day. They have more advanced tools similar to "PING IP" for doing it. This also happened when the license server was installed on my PC, it doesn't seem to be the case.

Tiago,

Two suggestions:  After ANSYS quits, check on your local machine for a process called "ansnysli_client.exe"  If it is running it can hang on to your license until you kill the process.

Another option is to manually ask the license server to release the license.  Find a copy of lmutil.exe (C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\winx64) and use the 'lmremove' option.  Google "lmutil lmremove"

Tiago, Two suggestions: After ANSYS quits, check on your local machine for a process called "ansnysli_client.exe" If it is running it can hang on to your license until you kill the process. Another option is to manually ask the license server to release the license. Find a copy of lmutil.exe (C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\Licensing\winx64) and use the 'lmremove' option. We have been running on a problem for some time and it has become very annoying as of late. Sometimes, when the solution process is stopped before finishing, ANSYS will not release the license. I can see from the ANSLIC_ADMIN utility that the license is still assigned to my user/pc, however when I try to run ANSYS on this condition it gives the following error:

ANSYS license server is in a remote server. Previously the server was on my machine, so I was able to just stop and restart the license server and all would come back to work (not the best solution, but it worked). Now, for security reasons, I don't have access to said server and can't restart the license server, and need to wait for the license to time out. That is something between 10 to 20min. Also, we have 2 licenses but ANSYS refuses to use the additional license. This is what is shown in ANSLIC_ADMIN log, when retrieving license information:
