Dear ANSYS users,
I have a group of Design Points I would like to update remotely (Running ANSYS WB 16.1).
I have tried several settings:
a) RSM set by choosing a Solve Process Settings running remotely at Solution schematic options.
First design point is updated properly (according to solve process settings).
While job is running remotely, next design point is loaded and geometry, model and setup blocks are updated. If DP2 reaches Solution update and DP1 is still running, an Error message appears saying "Update failed for the Solution component in Static Structural for design point 2. Queue %queue name% does not exist on solve manager. Edit your Mechanical Solve Process Settings and select a valid queue".
It skips then DP2 and starts updating DP3. When DP3 reaches Solution update, as DP1 had already finished it was sent to RSM with no problems.
b) RSM chosen by setting Update Option= Submit to Remote Solve Manager at Parameter Set schematics.
DP1 to DP3 jobs run one after the other but only with 1 process!!! (as specified by a temporary bat file that is created automatically)... How could I specify the solve process settings I would like to be used (license type, number of processors, distributed, etc etc)?
Thank you for your help!

Right, that is how it is designed to work (RSM set either at the project level or the solve process settings), but other combinations are/were possible. I recall that there were some strange things that happened with certain combinations and development actually put in code to prevent them from being possible.
However, if you do try out some of these combinations and you do get them to work (or work badly), I am interested to hear about it.

I think you could run it like that with either a) Project Update set
to remote with Pre-RSM Foreground Update or b) Project Update set to
foreground and Solve Process Settings set to remote.

Here's an example of "clever", though I'm not quite sure the exact
settings I used.
I had a large DOE to do (49 design points). Geometry updates through
DM and Creo are slower than molasses (10+ minute round trip for each
point - heavy on disk activity and light on CPU activity).
Somehow I had finagled WB into solving Mechanical models remotely
while it was still setting up the new DP. By the time it had finished
setting up DP #49, about 12 DP had finished on the remote computer and
DOE results had been retrieved and updated.
By generating new DP locally in parallel with remote solving them, the
DOE finished at least an hour faster.
