ANSYS friends,

Our company, SOCOTEC Engineering, Inc., needs a structural analyst.  The work is interesting, and the benefits are competitive.  For what it's worth to anyone, I've been here fourteen years and plan on sticking around.  Anyone interested can contact me directly at robert.dillworth@socotec.us.  And now, for the want ad proper:

SOCOTEC Engineering, Inc. (SEI) is looking for a full-time structural analyst.  Our principal line of business is root cause analysis and fitness-for-service assessments.  Our projects involve supporting clients in the transportation, energy production and distribution, aerospace, and maritime industries, to name just a few.  Expert-witness support in legal cases is also part of our work.  Learn more about SEI at our website: https://www.socotec.us/services/specialty-engineering.

The structural-analyst position can be based in any one of several of our U.S. offices: New York, New York; Amesbury, Massachusetts; Houston, Texas; Richland, Washington; or Naples and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
The position is not 100% remote.  Though some remote work can be accommodated, regular weekly in-office attendance will be required.  The remote/in-office split can be discussed during a candidate's interview.

Here's what we're looking for in qualified candidates:

  • 7 years' work experience, minimum
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or similar engineering field, graduate degree preferred
  • a P.E. license (desirable, though not necessary)
  • in-depth knowledge of structural analysis, using both FEA and classical methods; for FEA, must have significant experience with ANSYS software, with knowledge of both Workbench and MAPDL environments preferred
  • fracture-mechanics knowledge desirable
  • strong command of written English, as we produce many reports for our clients
  • facility with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • U.S. citizenship (required)
Our work involves a variety of analysis types: linear-elastic, plastic, buckling, contact, static/dynamic, modal, transient, and both implicit and explicit dynamic.

Though analysis would be the primary role, one would be expected to participate in other related activities, such peer reviewing other companies' work, reviewing legal testimony, supporting structural testing, or occasionally making site visits (for example, to look at failed components one is working on).  Report writing will be a common task, as it is often the main deliverable for a project.
