Help with installation/borrow

Hello all,

This is going to be a bit of a rambling email, please bear with me.  I have
Ansys 2020 R1 on my desktop workstation that is the server and where the
Ansys license resides.  I run Mechanical APDL or Ansys Classic.  I have an
older laptop that I've been running Ansys on, using the borrow utility, and
everything works fine.  I've recently purchased a new laptop with
Windows-11.  I took the STRUCTURES_2020R1_WINX64 zip file that I originally
used to install Ansys on my desktop and copied it to the new laptop.  Ansys
installed fine, as did the License Manager.  Ansys even ran on the new
laptop, by accessing the license file through WIFI.  However, when I started
up the Client ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility, the button that asks if you want to Run
the ANSYS Borrow Utility does not appear.

I've also made things worse by un-installing/re-installing a couple times so
that now only Workbench fires up on the laptop because the ANSYS Product
Launcher did not install.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

I used to work for a Channel Partner and one question I would always ask the customer..."did you 'run as admin' when you installed and uninstalled all of these things?"  When the answer is NO, I would ask them to restart the whole process using "run as admin" always.  It allows the (un)installer to use the machine's highest privileges.  Otherwise, the results are often uncertain.  So if you now have a jumbled mess on the laptop, try uninstalling everything using "run as admin," restart the machine, and then start from the beginning.

If your laptop has a docking station, take it off the dock for this process, since IP addresses can get jumbled up at times when going through a dock.

There should be no need to install the License Manager on the laptop since that's only required where the actual license resides.  Having it on the laptop is harmless, but also useless.  All of the Client ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility tools that the laptop needs, come installed without the License Manager installation.
